Expanding Arches with 3D Technology Means Less Time and Discomfort
At Roy Orthodontics, our x-rays are completely digital. Instead of films, we use specialized sensors that transmit images to a computer monitor. These radiographic images can be manipulated by the doctors if necessary, so they can diagnose with greater accuracy.
Digital x-rays are also safer than their conventional counterparts. In fact, our system emits 90 percent less radiation than traditional x-ray units.
Propel is a new technology to help teeth move faster through bone during orthodontic therapy.
What most patients don’t know is that bone is both friend when it comes to teeth stability and a foe when it comes to moving teeth.
Hard bone can be very resistant to change. That ‘s great for enabling you to bite and chew, but it hinders tooth movement.
Propel solves that.
Propel makes bone change briefly to a less dense state so teeth can move faster. Once moved, the bone re-calibrates and gets denser so the teeth will stay where they have been moved.
This very minor procedure often requires local numbing into the gum to allow the procedure to be done comfortably and with very little or no discomfort afterwards.
This procedure is particularly helpful with “stubborn” teeth that won’t move. These are often situations with crowding, twisted and turned teeth or closing spaces.
We use this technique selectively in cases to really move treatment along faster and get great results. Ask us if you have any questions.
What if you could finish your orthodontic treatment in half the time? With AcceleDent Aura, you can. Simply insert the mouthpiece and let the activator do the rest. This revolutionary device uses SoftPulse™ technology to move teeth faster. How does this work? The rate of tooth movement corresponds with the speed at which the surrounding bone changes. Therefore, when the micropulses are delivered to the jawbone, it encourages natural tooth movement. AcceleDent Aura can be used in conjunction with traditional metal braces or Invisalign, and has even been proven to alleviate general discomfort associated with orthodontics. When used every day for 20 minutes, this device can effectively accelerate movement by 38 to 50 percent.
Orthodontic treatment often requires impressions. In years past, these were taken with a messy, goopy material called alginate. It wasn’t a very comfortable process, especially for patients who suffered from a severe gag reflex. Many dental offices still use traditional impressions today. At Roy Orthodontics, we use digital impressions instead.
Digital impressions eliminate the need for messy, uncomfortable materials. Our small, handheld wand can take thousands of pictures of your teeth, and combine them to create a lifelike model of your mouth on our computer monitor. This can be completed in a matter of minutes. The dental model can then be used to fabricate custom appliances such as mouth guards or retainers.
