Following Retainer Instructions Ensures You Maintain Your Great Results!
Congratulations! You have reached an important milestone in your orthodontic journey. Our team at Roy Orthodontics wants you to enjoy your new smile for many years to come. That is why we’ve compiled this list of retainer instructions for your reference.
The retention phase of orthodontics is just as important as the straightening phase. In fact, if you do not wear your retainer as directed, your teeth can shift back into their original positions, and this can happen much sooner than you may think! To keep your smile beautiful and to protect your investment, read these guidelines.
How to Properly Care for Your Retainer
Clean your retainers daily. To keep your retainers in excellent condition, brush them daily with a soft toothbrush. If you notice plaque building up on the appliance, bring it into our office. We can clean it for you using ultrasonic technology. Avoid using denture cleaners, as they can damage the appliance.
Wear Your Retainers as Instructed
To keep your beautiful smile wear you retainers precisely as Dr. Roy instructs you. This phase of your treatment is under your control, but it is critical to your success to follow directions. No one is happy when teeth shift and following instructions is your ticket to a long lasting beautiful result.
Keep Your Retainer Case Handy
Any time you don’t have your retainers in your mouth, they should be protected. Placing them in your pocket is a common way to break them. Placing them is a napkin and leaving them on the table is the most common way to lose them. Putting them in the case will protect them and make them more noticeable so they won’t disappear so easily. If handled well retainers can last for years. The only one who is happy to replace the retainers is the lab who makes them. Replacement retainers are expensive.
Bring Your Retainers to Your Checkups
Be sure to bring your retainers with you whenever you attend routine dental visits or orthodontic checkups. We can assess your appliance and ensure it is still working properly.
We are Always Here for You

My sincere thanks to Dr. Roy and his team for showing me the way! My baby teeth had to be crowned for years since 2 of my adult teeth never came in. This was just one piece of the puzzle that needed figuring out. I’m proud of my smile and it shows every time I meet someone!- Liz
